Rapids To Hold Memorial For Colin Clark Tomorrow Night

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (September 16, 2019) – Colorado Rapids will hold a memorial service in honor of former player, Colin Clark on September 18, 2019 at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park.  The service will be open to the public.

WHAT:  The Colorado Rapids will hold a memorial service for the family, friends, and fans of Colin Clark, a former Rapids player and Colorado native.  Clark passed away on August 26, 2019 at 35 years old.  The midfielder made 138 appearances (97 starts), scored 15 goals, and garnered 13 assists over his eight-year career in Major League Soccer. Clark played for the Colorado Rapids, Houston Dynamo, and LA Galaxy as well as registered one cap with the U.S. Men’s National Team in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

WHO:  The service will be open to the public.

WHEN:  Wednesday, September 18, 2019

                Doors open at 6:30PM

Service at 7:00PM

Family Losses

Well, I'm back.  Lots of Rapids news to cover but we have to start with the most important news,  While I was gone dealing with personal losses in my family, our Rapids family lost two of their own as well.

On Thursday news broke that former Rapids striker and Ghanaian international Junior Agogo had passed away.  While no cause of death has been announced the assumption is that its related to the stroke he had a few years ago.  About 18 months ago Centennial 38, with an contribution from the Rapids, sent Junior a care package after hearing about his stroke and the fact that he hadn't heard from many teammates since then.  Agogo only played for the Rapids for a year and a half but made a large impact with his personality and friendliness and quickly became a fan favorite.  He was certainly one of my favorites, with Agogogoal! being one of my favorite shouts after he scored.

Then this morning we got new that midfielder Colin Clark had passed away over night from a heart attack.  Clark was a homegrown player before that was a thing in this league, growing up in Fort Collins and playing for various Rapids youth teams including the Boulder Rapid Reserves before becoming a regular starter for the Rapids.  He was with the team during the transition from the black & blue Invesco Field days to our burgundy home at Dick's Sporting Goods park.  His career was derailed by a couple of serious injuries but after retirement he went into coaching and was involved with the Colorado Rush organization.

Both Rapids alumni will be missed and my thoughts go out to their family and friends.  Combined with the loss of Fernando Clavijo in February this year has sucked.

Colin Clark Traded For Brian Mullan

It seems that the Rapids are wheeling and dealing as the roster freeze date hits today. They've just sent Colin Clark and allocation money to Houston for midfielder Brian Mullan. This trade surprises me more than yesterday's. I expected Clark to remain on the roster through his rehab but never return to the player he was before his two ACL tears. I really didn't expect the Rapids to be able to get anything for him. Clark was part of the group that really benefited from the reserve league, along with players like Peterson, Coundoul, Harvey, and LaBrocca. The only remaining members of that group on the Rapids are Kimura and Cummings.

Mullan is 32 and has been a core of Houston's recent run at the top of the table. He was originally drafted by LA in 2001 and then moved to San Jose (who later became the Dynamo). At 32 he's not a long-term solution for the Rapids but he'll help us this season and probably next season.

Since Colorado seems to have an aversion to going outside the league to sign players right now, allocation money is worthless to us. All in all it was a nice move to get something for money we won't spend and a player that won't be back to his full self until at least the middle of next season, if ever.
