Last night Colorado's U.S. Open Cup campaigned started and ended. The Fire beat the Rapids 2-1. Chicago used most of their first team while not a single regular starting XI member of the Rapids even traveled to Illinois. Despite that the Fire still needed a 40+ yard bomb from Anibaba to beat our reserves. The starting 11 for the Rapids was:
Joyce
Palguta - Marshall - Holody - LaBauex
Nyassi - Nane - Emory - Thompson
Akpan - Amarikwa
New signing Josh Janniere got 10 minutes in place of Emory at the end of the game. The Rapids goal was scored by Andre Akpan just a minute after the halftime break to level the score at 1-1. Amarikwa had the assist.
With the loss the Rapids will have to wait until 2012 to get another shot at the U.S. Open Cup. They now return their focus to the league, and in august, the CONCACAF Champion's League.
