Lack Of Attack Costs Rapids Again

On Friday I predicted we'd pack the box and try for the scoreless draw, and that's exactly what Colorado did on Saturday night.  The Rapids ceded possession to the Whitecaps by a difference of almost 62%-38%, they were outshot 15-5, and the Rapids only had 2 shots on target.  Despite that they had a chance to steal 3 points on a PK (one of the two shots on target) that was saved and a great defensive effort got them that scoreless draw.  Its a 7 game undefeated streak (including the USOC game) but in the end Colorado is losing ground in the playoff race.
  • This game had very strong reminders of 2016 Pablo-ball.  Lots of men behind the ball, working on a shutout, and trying to steal 3 points.
  • Obviously the big moment in this match was the PK.  It was called correctly, and Rubio is the one who should take it.  But he has to hit it better than that.  Far too close to the keeper.
  • Max had another game with good moments, but he had a great chance in the first half he failed to finish.
  • Only one other time (2019) since the Shootout/overtime era have the Rapids gotten to the 10th game with only one win.
  • With the window closed there won't be any help coming until July.  When the window opens there will only be 12 league games left.  If we have any chance this season we have to find an offense with what we have now.
  • That starts on Saturday in LA.  The Galaxy are in worse shape than we are.  If we can't get 3 points there, there's really not many games we can expect to win this season.
  • Other than that there's not much else to say about this game.  Its the same issues we've seen all season.
Man of the Match: William Yarbrough.  Made a couple of big saves to get his 30th career shutout as a Rapid, a new team record.
