Rapids Waive Valentino

According to the Rapids Twitter feed, Rob Valentino has been waived.

As I mentioned in my training camp post we have 5 roster DEV players and only 4 slots. Well we seem to be taking steps to deal with that. The Rapids have announced that Rob Valentino is on loan to Norwegian Second Division side Lov-Ham Football. Early rumors had him on trial there, not loan, so I'm guessing this is a first step to possibly getting a contract there. The length of the loan is unknown, and Valentino would still count against our roster cap if its not a full-season loan (At least according to last year's rules). I'm willing to bet though that one way or another we've seen the last of Rob Valentino in 2010.

In other news:

• The 2010 schedule will be officially released tomorrow at noon Denver time.
• The Danny Earls signing was confirmed to me by a source in the Rapids FO
  

News and Notes 5/6

The Rapids made a trade today, sending Nico Colaluca to New England for Rob Valentino. Valentino is a defender and Generation Adidas like Colaluca so there's no effect on our salary cap. This is really a meaningless trade right now as they have a combined 4 games of league experience between them and neither one looks like they're going to be a starter anytime soon. Valentino gives us more depth o nthe back line, but given that we now have 12 out of 24 players that are defenders or have spent time on the back line, I'm not sure it was depth that we needed.

The Rapids have also found out that they will play at Seattle in their next U.S. Open Cup play-in game. The game will be May 28th, 3 days after we host Seattle in league play, and the game will be played on the turf fields at the Starfire Soccer Complex in Tukwila, WA. I'm sure the best coverage we can hope for is a play-by-play text stream like we had for the LA game.
